Mr. John S. Knewell, husband of Helen Knewell, of Augusta died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his home.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. The funeral mass will be on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm at St. Michaels Catholic Church at Ft. Gordon. Committal, with military honors, will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Knewell is survived by his wife of more than 34 years, Mrs. Helen Knewell; his sisters, Katherine Cappeta of Staten Island, New York, and Mary Ann Silecchia of Long Island, New York; seven nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; many friends.

Mr. Knewell was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he retired as a Master Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he was a JROTC Instructor. He had been a member of the VFW. Mr. Knewell was a devoted husband and a loving and generous man.
